Born in Orlando, Florida in 1964, the son of a US father and a British mother grew up in both the USA and the UK and learned to play guitar at the age of 14. He was soon out earning as a street entertainer singing the songs of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Pink Floyd, and any other he could remember the lyrics to. Over the years Phil has been in a number of different bands but more recently has been gigging with gusto on the UK circuit as a solo artist accompanied by a backing band :
The Scruffy Dogs
Phil’s starting point when song writing is almost nursery-rhyme like in simplicity. You may find yourself thinking the songs are hauntingly familiar, but upon reflection are actually fresh and original. They are founded and grounded by hundred year old American folk roots.Phil lives an eccentric and unusual lifestyle – his charismatic personality reflects in his songs, common to all the accomplished artists across the world and he has shared the stage with many household named artists.
Phil Crawford’s Anglo-American style has a personality and professionalism that presents a very entertaining live show and his music and voice has an energy which has proved to be a real winner.
Born a Military child in Orange County, Florida, Phil travelled the world living the life of a country boy. In adolescence he moved into the then Urban British punk/rock culture of the seventies living life on the edge of sex drugs ‘n’ rock ‘n’ roll – yet SURVIVED to live and tell the tale.........
During Phil’s working life to finally establish himself as a working artist he went to University and subsequently spent fifteen years as a ‘true socialist Social Worker’, working in a middle class capitalist regime (The Enemy Within!).Prior to University Phil struggled to hold down a job for longer than six months – not through laziness, but felt tired of seeing people making money on the back of others blood sweat and grime.Underpinning Phil’s song writing is a strong Socialist ethos which reflects his working class prospective incorporating poverty, injustice of racism, capital punishment, marshal law, capitalism and human equal rights.
